FACTS

Appearance:

   - Chum salmon have a streamlined body with a silvery coloration in the ocean.

   - During spawning, both males and females undergo dramatic changes; males develop large, hooked jaws and distinct color patterns, while females take on a mottled appearance.


 Size:

   - Medium to large-sized salmon, with adult individuals varying in size.


Habitat:

   - Found in the Pacific Ocean and associated rivers, ranging from Japan and Korea to North America and Siberia.

   - Like other Pacific salmon, they are anadromous, migrating between freshwater and the ocean.


Lifecycle:

   - Chum salmon hatch in freshwater, migrate to the ocean to mature, and return to their natal streams to spawn.


Diet:

   - Feed on a variety of prey in both freshwater and marine environments, including small fish and invertebrates.
