Alaska Fly Out Trout was founded in 2023 by Max Pavel — but the story starts a lot earlier than that. Growing up in Colorado, Max would ride his bike after school to get a line in the water almost every day. Now the mode of transportation to the water looks a little different, but the obsession never went away.

Max has spent his life finding ways to share the things he's most passionate about and Alaska Fly Out Trout is the purest version of that yet.

THE PATH TO ALASKA

Max started guiding walk-and-wade trips on the Upper Colorado, Eagle, and Roaring Fork rivers for Fish On Colorado. It wasn’t long before the raft came into play. While bumper to bumper in Colorado, Max would dream about less traffic (on the roads and the river), more fish, bigger fish and flat out meaner fish. Fish that know the summer is short.

His dreams came true and he had the opportunity to guide in Alaska for a few magical summers - chasing carnivorous rainbows with hand-tied mouse patterns, hiking to secluded alpine lakes for grayling, and multi-day overnight trips in the backcountry.

Inevitably, Max and his family soon made the decision to move to Alaska year round to pursue their dream of building an outfitter that prioritized quality at every level - guides, equipment (especially flies), and river banter.

Fly Out Trout was built to do things right in one of the most extraordinary places on earth to chase trout. These trips are a bucket list opportunity for anglers that believe the experience matters as much as the fish.

The Fly Out Trout guide team is made up of highly experienced, passionate anglers. Each member has a unique skillset curated by time in the wilderness. From first aid to food preparation the FOT crew is who you’d want to be with if the plane never came back.

Alaska Fly Out Trout operates across the state, with the Kenai Peninsula as home base. FOT provides a unique offering that is dialed in. We obsess about the little things because fishing is a game that can never be won.
